
IPCD’s Participation in the National Childhood TB Screening and Testing in Karu LGA, Nasarawa State.

The National Childhood TB screening and testing week was done between 22 and 26 May 2023 in all the states of the federation. Initiative for Prevention and Control of Diseases (IPCD) in collaboration with Breakthrough Action Nigeria (BAN) and Zanklin Research Centre (ZRC) sponsored the 4-day exercise in Angwan Mallam and Dunkuru Normadic communities in Karu LGA Nasarawa state. The activity was also carried out in Mallam Bawa Alimagiri school, Destiny Academy Guruku Sama, Stellamac/Emmhacy School Jidna Aso B and Pilot Primary School Area 1, Masaka of Karu LGA. During the celebration, sensitization of community members and leaders, TB awareness campaigns, TB screening and testing were carried out for the children in the communities. A total of 853 community members were sensitized and screened for TB, with 196 of them having signs and symptoms of TB. Sputum samples were collected from them and sent for TB examination in the laboratory. None of the samples was positive for TB.
The NGO also participated in the exercise in Doma and Keffi, Kokona, Lafia, Nasarawa and Nasarawa Eggon, In Nasarawa Eggon, 7 children were diagnosed with TB.
