
AKABOR VILLAGE, MBAUKWU, ANAMBRA STATE GETS FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH

As part of our mission in building healthier communities, IPCD carries out humanitarian activities in communities in collaboration with government bodies, public health facilities and other NGOs. IPCD Anambra team in collaboration with the TB Unit of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, Anambra State TB and SAWOR organization organized a medical outreach at AKABOR VILLAGE, MBAUKWU, Anambra State on Saturday 15th September 2021. The outreach started with an advocacy visit to HIS ROYAL HIGNESS(HRH) Igwe P.N. Anugwu and his cabinets. The team informed the cabinet members of the purpose of the outreach and solicited their support in making the free medical outreach a success.
The medical outreach involved the screening of community members for Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV, Blood Pressure (BP), Full Blood Screening (FBS), skin/peptic ulcer and other health issues. Medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists and other health personnel were on ground with medicines, screening/testing tools and other pharmaceutical commodities to meet the needs of the people. More than 300 persons including children were screened. Among those screened, 15 persons that were identified with presumptive TB had their sputum samples collected and tested in the lab. One of the persons tested was diagnosed with TB. A total of 45 children were diagnosed with malaria and were placed on treatment immediately. Ulcer treatment were also given to patients who diagnosed with the ailment . Equally, 4 persons tested positive for HIV , 7 had high blood pressure and 3 had high blood glucose levels and were given free treatment and linked to health facilities where they will continue with their treatment.
The traditional ruler of the community and his cabinet appreciated the organization for the medical outreach.
